2012 Travel Reminiscence (Part 2a)

2. Belitung (1)

Why part 2a? Because I love love love loveee Belitung! This 2012 year I also went twice to Belitung and I still want to go there again!

The 1st time was in late Feb 2012, and again, I went with a group of (almost the same) Docents and college students from Bandung. Similar with what happen during my trip to Lombok in end of Jan 2012, this Belitung trip also a bit ruined because of the rain. Nevertheless, it was still so beautiful even on a rainy day.

I went there using Batavia afternoon flight and it was delayed one hour (sigh) and went back using Sriwijaya morning flight as I have to went directly to office (poor me). The cost was less than RP 1 million and I booked it only 2 days before leaving. There are only 2 airlines served this destination: Batavia and Sriwijaya. Sometimes they put higher price for far away travel date, but it was also a gamble to booked an air ticket just a few days before (but from my experience just for this Belitung, usually cheaper). Oh, please take cautions, the airport to Belitung is Tanjung Pandan. Don't go to Pangkal Pinang as it is in Bangka (neighbor island) or even to Tanjung Pinang (as it is in Riau Island).

We stayed in a 2 stars hotel called Martani Hotel. This is really an old hotel (we called it a 70-an hotel). The room is very basic and it doesn’t even have any water heater. Fortunately it got air conditioner. Psst…the sizes of the rooms are not even, so guest may end up in a big room or a small room; all in one price. The standard room was Rp 200.000/night.

We booked a group tour as in Belitung, it is quite difficult to go alone, especially for island hopping. The boat rent for 1 day island hopping is around Rp 400 - 500.000 and it is not included any snorkeling gears. To go around the Belitung island, there is no motorcycle rental available, only car rental. The tour price for 3d2n usually goes around Rp 900.000 - Rp 1.200.000; and it is depend on the type of the hotel.

The itinerary was like this:

Day 1 : Tanjung Tinggi (beautiful rocky beach which is famous for the shooting place of "Laskar Pelangi" movie. The rocks in that beach are seriously HUGE). Second destination was Tanjung Kelayang (a port where we would go for island hopping in the next day) and end up at Tanjung Pendam to see the sunset (and it was one of the most beautiful sunset I've ever seen).

Day 2 : Island hopping, visited 2 islands, 1st was Lengkuas island which is famous with its light house and 2nd was Burong Island, where tourist usually went there for lunch. We also had snorkeling around Lengkuas island. Because of the rain, I couldn’t take some picture in Burong Island, But don't worry, in my next trip, that island will be captured properly.

At the Lengkuas Island, I didn't went to the top of the light house, too lazy to climb more than 100 stairs.

On the way home to Tanjung Pandan, we went to a tiny bity island that only can be visited during low tide. It is called Pulau Pasir. In here, we can hunt big starfish, just like these babies below.

Day 3 : I had to went home earlier because of my job (really s*ck), the others were went to East Belitong, to see the location of “Laskar Pelangi” shooting place, including the elementary school and Burung Mandi beach.

That was why, I really excited to went there again in the couple next months :)
